Apparently, the Mid-Continent University men's basketball team doesn't mind playing a little extra basketball. Four times this season the Cougars have played in OT - and has won all of them. On Thursday, Mid-Continent outlasted the Bulldogs of Union University in double overtime, 87-79.

Chris Ferguson, whose mother was in the stands for the first time in his career, dominated on both ends of the floor. The senior forward led all players in scoring (26 points) and in rebounding (22).

Neither team led by more than seven points in the first half, and Mid-Continent led until the 4:49 mark, when Union took the lead, taking a 30-24 lead into the locker room at the intermission. Union kept the lead through the second half, until Ferguson knocked down a free throw to give Mid-Continent a 50-49 lead with 7:12 on the clock. Neither team could pull away, and the game went to overtime with a 63-63 score.

Mid-Continent had a chance to win at the end of the first overtime, but came up empty, and the game went into a second overtime period, tied at 71.

With the game knotted at 75-75 and 2:51 remaining in the second extra session, a three-point basket by Marcus Johnson and a foul was underneath the basket on Union's Antoine Hall created a 5-point play for the Cougars, after Antonio Davis hit a pair of free throws. The teams traded baskets for a while, but the Cougars scored the game's final five points, claiming the win 87-79.

Steve McBorrough scored 16 points in the game, and Davis posted 11 for Winston Bennett's squad. The double-double effort of Ferguson was his sixth of the season.

The Cougars will play their final home game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon, and will honor six seniors - Ferguson, McBorrough, Brent Butler, Marcus Bowins, Chris Tillman, and Matt Fraliex. Tip-off is slated for 4 pm at Mayfield High School Sports Arena. Fans are asked to support the 2012 TranSouth Athletic Conference canned food drive as they attend.
