The University of Louisville football team was picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference football preseason poll, announced by the league on Monday.

The poll of 173 media members was conducted during last week's 2019 ACC Kickoff in Charlotte, North Carolina. Clemson was voted as the favorite in the Atlantic Division with Virginia picked to win the Coastal. Clemson was also selected as the favorite for the ACC Championship.

Louisville kicks off the Scott Satterfield era on Labor Day, Sept. 2, as the first-year head coach leads the Cardinals against Notre Dame at Cardinal Stadium.

The Cardinals return 17 starters from last season highlighted by running back Hassan Hall, wide receivers Seth Dawkins and Dez Fitzpatrick, and offensive tackle Mekhi Becton. On defense, linebackers C.J. Avery and Dorian Etheridge are key returnees.

Avery, Becton, Fitzpatrick and Hall were all named preseason All-ACC by Phil Steele in his 2019 College Football Preview.

Avery and Etheridge will help anchor the Louisville defense after combining for 111 stops one year ago. Etheridge has started 23 games in his first two seasons with the Cardinals, while Avery led the team with a pair of interceptions in 2018.

Becton started all 12 games at left tackle for the Cardinals last season and scored his first career touchdown when he plowed in from one yard out in a win over Indiana State.

Dawkins and Fitzpatrick combined for 56 receptions for 751 yards and four touchdowns last season. Both receivers enter the 2019 season with more than 1,100 yards receiving for their careers.

Hall made an immediate impact as a true freshman in 2018 in the backfield and on special teams. The Atlanta product rushed for more than 300 yards and three scores while tallying 818 kick return yards, the sixth-most in school history.

The Atlantic and Coastal Division winners will meet in the 2019 ACC Football Championship Game on Saturday, December 7, at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium.
