Louisville Wraps Up First of Two Scrimmages

The University of Louisville men's basketball team played the first of two scrimmages on Saturday night at the KFC Yum! Center.  The team was divided into red and white teams and at the half some players switched teams.  The Red team won the first half 49-36 and after switching players around at the half, the second half was a close game with the Red squad winning by a slim margin of 45-43. 

In the first half Anas Mahmoud and David Levitch led the Red team with 10 points each.  Adel Deng and David Levitch each had five rebounds as well.  The Red team shot 46.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc. 

Jaylen Johnson led the White team with 11 points in the first half while also pulling down 10 rebounds.  Chinanu Onuaku finished with eight points and five rebounds.  The White team finished the half shooting 35 percent from the field and 10 percent from behind the arc.  The White team held a slight 24-22 rebounding edge over the Red team.

In the second half, Donovan Mitchell led the Red team with 13 points off 6-of-12 shooting from the field.  Trey Lewis finished with 10 points.  Johnson led the team on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds.  The Red team finished the half shooting 38.6 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the arc.  They also held a 29-25 rebounding advantage over the White team.
 
Mahmoud and Damion Lee led the White team in the second half with 11 points each.  Mahmoud also led the team on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds.  The White team shot 38.9 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc. 

The White team had a chance to tie the game in the final minutes but threw the ball out of bounds.  They were able to knock the ball away from the Red team on the inbounds play but the clock expired before they could set up a shot. 

Louisville will host a final scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 17 in the KFC Yum! Center.
