"We want you to know that we will be partnering with you all throughout this season."

That was the message of Mid-Continent University men's basketball Coach Winston Bennett to the student body and faculty of Graves County High School on Friday afternoon. The Coach and former University of Kentucky basketball star represented the Mid-Continent Athletic Department at a pep rally to kick-off the 2012-13 athletic season, representing Mid-Continent's commitment to be more involved with the local school whose campus is located just five miles from MCU. The rally was held in advance of Graves County's home football opener, after the Eagles opened their 2012 campaign with a 58-36 neutral site victory over Evansville (IN) Harrison High School in the Alliance Bowl.

Bennett also let the crowd gathered in the Graves County High School gymnasium about two upcoming events in which Mid-Continent and Graves County are partnered. The annual Battle of the Birds football game with Mayfield High School will be played on September 14 at Graves County, and will feature a heavy presence from the Mid-Continent athletic department as the Cougars serve in various roles during the contest.

Just two weeks later, on September 29, the Cougars will once again make their way over to GCHS, this time for a Mid-Continent basketball exhibition with a team billed as the "Big Blue Alumni." The Alumni squad will feature former Kentucky basketball stars Antoine Walker and Derek Anderson, among others, and will tip-off the 2012-13 Mid-Continent basketball schedule.

Tickets for the game against the Big Blue Alumni will go on sale September 8 through Graves County High School. All seating in the arena will be reserved, with bleacher seats selling for $10, and chair-back seats available for $15. Corporate sponsorships are also available, and they include a variety of special privileges. For information on becoming a Corporate Sponsor of the event, contact Mid-Continent baseball coach Shawn Yarbrough at 270-366-1404 or syarbrough@midcontinent.edu.
