The Cougars (3-3) dominated play all afternoon against the St. Catherine College Patriots (0-3), tallying a season high four goals in their 4-1 victory.
Jan Chvojan took a feed from Keagan Bacchus in the 17th minute and cashed in his third goal of the season to give the Cougars the early 1-0 lead. Just over six minutes later, Scott Zettlemoyer buried a rebound for the first goal of his Mid-Continent career to push the Mid-Continent advantage to 2-0, and with just over five minutes left in the frame, Erick Torres tallied his first goal as a Cougar to push the Cougars lead to 3-0.
Marvin Wessleburg finished a header off a corner kick for the Patriots with just 30 seconds left in the half to cut the lead to 3-1, but that was all the offense St. Catherine was able to muster in the match. Mid-Continent continued to dominate play in the second half, outshooting the Patriots 19-9 on the afternoon, and in the 78th minute Jack Hutton tallied a goal for his second straight match, with Brock Herndon picking up the assist, as the Cougars wrapped up the 4-1 win.
Zettlemoyer's goal proved to be the game winner, and in goal Adam Lewis (3-3) picked up the win for Mid-Continent with Austin Droke entering late to give the Cougars' senior keeper a breather on what was a very hot and humid afternoon in central Kentucky.
Mid-Continent will open their home schedule on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State University (1-2) at 2 p.m.
