Murray State senior Demetrius Mason was named as the adidas® OVC Defensive Player of the Week for week six of the season Sunday, the league office announced. This is the first defensive player of the week honor of the season for the Racers and the third overall weekly honor, with Landon Stratton and Elijah Daniel earning Specialist and Newcomer of the Honors, respectively, earlier this season.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native did a little bit of everything in Saturday's win over Austin Peay, recording statistics in six different categories. Mason had three total tackles in the games, with all three going down as solo tackles. He also recorded a tackle-for-loss of one yard and blocked a kick for the third time in his career. In addition, the senior forced one fumble and then recovered a second later in the game.

This was the first ever weekly honor in any category for the senior. Mason and teammates will take this week off before returning to action on Oct. 24 at UT Martin.
