The second year of the Heritage Bank - Battle of the Border sees its first competition Saturday when the Murray State Racers host the Austin Peay Governors in football.

Launched in 2016, The Heritage Bank - Battle of the Border highlights one of the top rivalries in the Ohio Valley Conference and all of intercollegiate athletics. This spirited rivalry saw the Racers win the Heritage Bank traveling trophy after the first season of competition during the 2016-17 school year.

The Govs meet the Racers Saturday at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Kentucky at 6 p.m. The game is part of Murray State's Family Weekend.

The Heritage Bank Battle of the Border is an annual rivalry series between APSU and MSU. A points system was developed that awards the winner for each head-to-head regular season match, game or series and in some cases, the way the teams finish at the OVC Championship. The 67 total points possible each season represent the 67 miles separating the two universities in Murray and Clarksville, Tenn. The Racers won the first year of the competition 46.5 points to 17.5 points.

There are five meetings during the fall sports season. After the Govs and Racers meet in football Saturday, Austin Peay plays the Racers at Racer Arena in volleyball on Oct. 2. Soccer is in the spotlight (Oct. 12) when APSU makes a visit to MSU's Cutchin Field. After the rivals tangle at the OVC Cross Country Championship on Oct. 28, the two play another volleyball match at APSU on Nov. 8.
