University of Kentucky transfer Charles Matthews is headed to Michigan, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

Matthews, a 6-foot-6 guard, will have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2016-17 season, per NCAA transfer rules. Matthews averaged 1.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists in 10.3 minutes per game at Kentucky.

Matthews committed to Kentucky as a high school junior in February 2014. He picked the Wildcats over Illinois, Kansas, Marquette and Michigan State, among others, and was the first player in the 2015 class to commit to Kentucky.

Matthews, of Chicago, was ranked as the No. 59 overall prospect in the class of 2015 in the 247 Sports Composite. He was rated the No. 16 shooting guard and No. 2 recruit in Illinois.
