White Team Prevails in Louisville Scrimmage, 55-41

University of Louisville men's basketball fans witnessed their first glimpse of the 2018-19 team in the opening Red-White scrimmage. Junior V.J. King and sophomore Jordan Nwora led the White Team to a 55-41 win over the Red Team.

King scored 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-4 from three, and snagged five rebounds. Nwora recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Redshirt junior Steven Enoch pitched in 10 points and eight rebounds.

On the Red side, graduate senior Christen Cunningham put together a complete game. He led the Red team in scoring with 15, grabbed five rebounds and handed out four assists. Sophomore Malik Williams scored 11 points and hauled in six rebounds.

The Cardinal big men grabbed the spotlight early. Williams recorded five points, three rebounds and a block in the opening minutes. Enoch logged six points and three rebounds.

The Red Team hit five consecutive shots, helping them to take a 26-19 lead in the first half. The White Team quickly closed the gap with a pair of threes from King and sophomore Jacob Redding, giving the Red Team a 29-27 lead.

A 10-0 run fueled by King and Nwora allowed the White Team to take a 39-31 lead with 2:27 to play in the half. The White Team held the lead going into the half at 42-35.

King led all scorers with 15 points at the break. Cunningham led the Red Team with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

A continuous 10-minute clock created a fast paced second half. Baskets were tough to come by with both teams pressing, allowing for six total points in the first five minutes.

The White Team closed the game on a 7-0 run to secure the 14-point win.

The Cardinals are back in action Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. when they host Bellarmine in the first exhibition of the season.
