He and his wife, Denise, have made the decision to move back home to the Evansville area for family reasons.
No effective date has been set. Elliott has told administrators he is interested in helping make sure the transition over the next few weeks is as seamless as possible.
"We have thoroughly enjoyed our time at Ballard County Schools," Elliott said in his resignation letter. "It has been a fantastic place to work."
Ballard Memorial Principal Leslee Davis said, "We'd just like to thank John for his years at Ballard. He worked tirelessly with our students here, and made numerous improvements in the football program. I appreciate his dedication to our students and our community."
Elliott was 36-29 in his tenure at
Ballard. The Bombers finished 5-6 last year, losing to Butler County 54-38 in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
He also served the district as athletic director and as
a teacher. He was active with the county's little league and middle
school football programs.
