Ballard Memorial made it all the way to the championship game of the All “A” Classic state baseball tournament Sunday, but lost a heart-breaking one-run game to Lexington Christian Academy 4-3.

The Bombers jumped on LCA pitcher Dima Ballard early in the game and led 3-0 in the top of the second inning. The Bombers scored a run on a balk and another on a wild pitch. Andrew Burton’s RBI single accounted for the other run.

LCA tied Ballard Memorial in the bottom of the second inning. Jaxson Blair’s single drove in pinch-runner Nelson Lane, and Stephens’ two-run single scored pinch-runner John Stein and Blair.

The Eagles took the lead in the fifth inning when Andrew Barker scored on Hunter Wills’ one-out blooper to right.

Ballard Memorial beat Carroll County 8-4 in eight innings Saturday and Hazard 9-5 Sunday morning to advance to the championship game.

The Bombers placed three players on the All-Tournament team: Addison Wildharber, Lee Chandler and Bradley Roberts.
