By Brian York
WESTERN KENTUCKY -

Murray
The Murray High Tigers are coming off a another strong season in 2011. A season in which they went 12-2 before losing in the semi-finals of the Class 2A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl.

The Tigers have become a formidable power in District 1. Last season marked the third consecutive 12-win season for the Tigers and third straight year in which Murray reached at least the quarter-finals of the playoffs.

Entering play last season Murray High put together a 29-game regular season win-streak that dated back to the 2008 season. Mayfield ended the streak in the fourth game of the season with a 35-7 win over the Tigers.

The Tigers kick their season off on Friday at home against Lake County, TN.

They will face inner-county rival Calloway County August 24 and will look to avenge last year's regular season loss to Mayfield at home on September 7.

Reidland
The Reidland Greyhounds will be looking to improve on a three-win season from a year ago.

Last year was an up and down season for Reidland that featured some tough losses, yet some impressive wins.

In fact the Greyhounds were dominating in their wins, topping Fulton County 42-6, Ballard Memorial 41-13 and Fulton City 42-6. However, the Greyhounds were outscored 361-86 in their losses.

Being coached this year by Reidland alum Shaun Thomas, the Greyhounds will kick off their final season of play (McCracken County schools will be consolidating following the school year) on Friday at Fulton County and will face county rivals Heath on August 24 and Lone Oak on September 14.

Heath
Like Reidland, the Heath Pirates won just 3 games last season finishing at 3-8 on the year.

Heath picked up close wins over Reidland and Fulton County. The Pirates topped Reidland 19-12 in the second game of the season and beat Fulton County 21-20 in overtime.

Heath's other win was a 51-25 win over Webster County.

Heath will kick-off its final season of play on Friday with a road game at Ballard Memorial and will face county rivals Reidland on August 24 and Lone Oak October 26. The Pirates also have an away date at Paducah Tilghman on September 21. The games with Reidland and Lone Oak will mark the last times the two schools will face each other before consolidating next season.
