Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems the only strategy that can be applied to sports is to wait and see.

Even now in early July we are all just waiting to see what will happen with fall high school sports.

During the waiting there has been some glimmer of hope. Players have been allowed to return to practice, under certain health guidelines, to begin preparing for their upcoming seasons. Although there is still a large amount of uncertainty with if or when those season will happen. Again we have to wait and see.

But earlier this week there was some certainty delivered to high school football teams in Kentucky, even though that came from the state of Tennessee. We no longer have to wait and see if certain games will happen. We now know they won't.

TSSAA Director Bernard Childress recommended three different plans for the start of the 2020 high school football season. All three plans mean that practice would not start until August 30. Games would not start until September 18.

So how does this affect our teams in Kentucky?

It means that no less than six already scheduled games for Region 1 teams have now been canceled, or postponed or altogether rescheduled.

Fulton City loses three games off its schedule, Fulton County will lose two and Mayfield one.

Now, in light of that there is some positive. With both Fulton County and Mayfield losing their season opening games, the two schools have agreed to play each other on August 21.

That game would replace Mayfield traveling to Memphis Lausanne (TN) and Fulton County going to Gleason (TN).

So that is what we now know. For all the rest, well we have to wait and see.
