The Graves County Eagles (5-2, 2-0) made a statement Friday night in their 31-7 win over rival Marshall County (3-3, 0-2), winning their 11th in a row over the Marshals.

Ryan Mathis had one of his most accurate games of the season passing for 262 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-29 passing for the Eagles. Mathis targeted three different Eagles for touchdowns as well; Jacob Savage, Bryce Suiter, and Trevor Grant.

Graves used an early onslaught to coast to victory. After a Rodrigo Garcia 27-yard field goal in the first quarter, Brennan Culp found the endzone with a 2-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 10-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter.

Later in the 2nd quarter, Ryan Mathis found Trevor Grant for a 16-yard strike to make it 17-0. Then with 43 seconds before halftime, Mathis found Suiter for a 5-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 24-0 halftime lead.

The loss marks the second in a row for Marshall County who was fresh off a three-game winning streak just a couple of weeks ago. It doesn’t get any easier for the Marshals next week as they travel to Owensboro. The Eagles have a bye next week before traveling to Christian County Oct. 14.

The McCracken County Mustangs (5-2, 2-0) made quick work of Ohio County (2-5, 0-2)Friday night, beating the Eagles 49-7.

In a true testament of talent and depth, the Mustangs scored seven touchdowns Friday night by seven different players. Darian Woods, Ethan Schaaf, Eli Crider, Cory Fike, Dalton Lanphere, TaeShawn Allen, and Simeon Jones-Herbert all contributed with touchdowns for the Mustangs. McCracken County senior quarterback Cash Jones was 12-of-19 passing for 311 yards and six touchdowns.

The run defense for McCracken County has not allowed net positive total yardage for the 2nd week in a row. The Mustangs held the Eagles to exactly zero net yards rushing after holding Daviess County to negative net total yards rushing last week.

The Mustangs travel to Henderson County next Friday night for what figures to be the battle for the Class 6A District 1 season title.
