The McCracken County Mustangs scored early and often to close out the regular season with their fifth win in a row, this one in convincing fashion with a 49-0 over Muhlenberg County.

Sophomore Franklin Hayes tied the single game school record for McCracken County with four rushing touchdowns. Hayes’ first rushing touchdown was the first score of the game, a 19-yard scamper to give McCracken County the 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game.
The Mustangs would score on their next possession when junior tailback Zander Hamby powered into the end zone for a 1 yard touchdown to make it 15-0.

Franklin Hayes would get his second rushing touchdown of the game early in the second quarter. This was from two yards out to give McCracken a 22-0 lead. Just before the half, Hayes would strike again, this time with a 9 yard rushing touchdown to make it a 29-0 halftime lead.

Hayes would get his fourth touchdown of the game right out of the gates in the 2nd half, blasting in from 17-yards out to give McCracken the 35-0 lead early in the 3rd. The Mustangs would achieve the running clock status minutes later as sophomore quarterback Elijah Wheat connected with Andrew Vanderford for a 20 yard touchdown. Elijah Holland finished the scoring with less than 2 minutes left in the game with a four yard touchdown run.

McCracken County had 501 yards on offense tonight while giving up just 83 yards to Muhlenberg County, including holding Muhlenberg County to just 3 yards of offense in the second half.

McCracken County closes its season with a 5-game winning streak. McCracken County opens the playoffs with a rematch against Muhlenberg County, this time at Marquette Stadium on November 3 at 7pm.


The Graves County Eagles bounced back from a disappointing home loss last week for a dramatic home win this week, outlasting Owensboro 24-17 tonight in Mayfield.

Graves County stormed out of the gates, jumping to a 17-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter. Ryan Mathis found Carson Elliott on the first scoring drive for a 18 yard touchdown. Chase Whitis found the end zone on an 11 yard scamper with 3:39 in the first quarter to make it a 14-0 Graves County lead. And Luis Macias connected on a 20-yard field goal to give the Eagles the 17-0 lead with 11:15 in the 2nd quarter.

Owensboro would make a run before halftime as Ezekeil Brown used a solid run, outlasting several Eagles for a 38-yard touchdown. Then, with :42 seconds before the half, Grayson McFarland booted a 23-yard field goal to make it 17-10 Graves County at the half.

Graves County started the fourth quarter with a bang as Cody Goatley ran it in from 1-yard out to give Graves the 24-10 lead with 11:57 in the 4th quarter. Owensboro would answer right back as Ezekiel Brown connected with Terion Hall for 32 yards to make it 24-17 Graves County with 8:26 in the game. However, Owensboro’s final drive stalled with just a couple of minutes left to give Graves County the win.

With the win, the Eagles clinch the 3-seed in the Class 5A District 1 race. Graves County finishes the regular season next week with a senior night matchup against Calloway County.
