Graves County High School senior Dana Adkins recently signed a letter of intent to attend Campbellsville University on a softball scholarship.

During her high school career, the Lady Eagles softball team won two district championships and finished once as regional runner-up. She also played on the basketball team, winning three district championships and – last season – a regional title.

“We’re very proud. She’s worked hard for this and it’s something she’s wanted to do ever since she started playing in the fifth grade. This was her goal and now we’re ready,” said her father, Mike Adkins.

Dana’s mother, Lisa Adkins, added, I’m very excited that she’s chosen this path to go down. I’m going to miss her very much.” She acknowledged she hopes to attend a number of games.

Dana explained, “I really like it at Campbellsville. I think it’s a really good fit. I’m just ready to go up there.”

Campbellsville head coach Shannon Wathen noted, “I think Campbellsville University is very lucky today. We’re getting a young lady who excels both academically and athletically. She is going to come in and hopefully make an impact on our program and help us to build what we already got started.”

Graves County athletic director Khristain Elliott concluded, “I’ve had the opportunity and privilege to coach her older brother, Zach, and to watch her play these four years. She reminds me a lot of Zach in how hard she plays the game and how she approaches it. They’re two of my favorite athletes to come through here. I’ve enjoyed both of them.”

He drew a laugh from the crowd of friends gathered, when he added, “ I think she has more power than Zach did.”
