The Graves County High School volleyball teams will face off against Ballard Memorial on Oct. 2, and it's safe to say everyone in attendance will be seeing pink. Graves County High School will host the first annual Volley for the Cure event that evening, with the purpose of raising money and awareness for breast cancer research.

The Volley for the Cure matches will start at Graves County High School at 5 pm. Thursday, Oct. 2, with the freshman team. The JV matches will follow with varsity matches expected to begin at 7 pm.

A silent auction will be held with items on display and available for bidding near the concession stand. Among the items available for bidding are St. Louis Cardinal field box seats, UK Basketball and UK Football tickets.

Onsite silent auction bidding opens Thursday, Oct. 2 at 5 pm. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Kentucky Affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity.

During the Volley for the Cure matches, a breast cancer awareness table will be set up, with free information provided by the Kentucky affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The teams also invite cancer survivors and those who are fighting cancer to take part in a brief ceremony in their honor at approximately 6:30 pm, prior to the varsity matches.

In addition to volleyball action, the silent auction and survivor recognition, there will also be a "wall of honor" to honor those affected by cancer, games with prizes, and give-a-ways. Survivors and families of those who have passed due to breast cancer are invited to attend.
