After amassing 490 wins as a head coach, leading three girls teams to the TSSAA state tournament, two Final Four appearances, and one USA Today Top 25 national ranking, Joe Holloway is hoping to earn his 500th victory this season as part of the building process for a successful girls basketball program at Fulton City High School.

Holloway spent 29 years in the Madison County (Jackson, TN) School systems, coaching basketball at the middle, then high school levels, while also coaching volleyball, softball, and football at various times – including one softball state championship season.

He spent 17 of those years at Northside High School in Jackson, where he enjoyed his greatest success. All three regional titles and both Final Four appearances occurred during those years, as well as the school’s only Top 25 national ranking.

His 1989 team lost in the state semi-finals to the number one team in the nation at the time, Shelbyville, TN, and featured Kristin Goehring who went on to play in the SEC at Ole Miss as part of the 1991-92 team that began the year 25-1, including a win over No. 2 Tennessee.

Holloway was tabbed to build the program for a brand new school in Madison County – Liberty Tech Magnet School – when it opened in 2003. In the course of the next four years, the team record improved each year, culminating in the program advancing to a sub-state appearance.

He was named Regional Coach of the Year 4 times, WBBJ TV Coach of the Year twice, the Jackson Sun Coach of the Year 3 times, and received the A.F. Bridges and Distinguished Service awards from the TSSAA.

Since retiring in 2007, Holloway has filled several interim coaching positions, but has also maintained an active presence in high school athletics as a color commentator on radio broadcasts and as a talk radio host in Jackson.

Holloway has been part of rebuilding many programs and is excited about the challenge and opportunity that Fulton City brings. He is looking to improve on last year’s 6-14 record and helping develop a foundation for future success in a program that has not won a district title since 2004 and has only won 31 games since 2005.
