It all came down to the final seconds in a game that mattered most. After a game that will leave classmates and fans alike talking for years to come, the Lady Marshals took home the championship win over Graves County 52-50 in overtime on Saturday night at the CFSB Center.

Despite Graves County’s own senior Callie Jackson making a 2-point shot to kick off the night, junior Cayson Conner and her Lady Marshals held the lead over Graves throughout the first half, going into halftime up 24-11. Conner would finish with a team high of 26 points on the night, while Jackson had a team high of 21 points.

Marshall County was able to stretch that lead to 13, thanks to 10 points off 12 Graves County turnovers.

The Second half saw a different Graves County team and once again, Jackson kicked off the second half of the night with another 2-point shot. The Lady Eagles began to chip away at Marshall’s lead point by point.

With a minute to go in the third, Conner missed a 3-point shot and both teams headed into the fourth quarter 34-25.

As time ticked away in the fourth, the Marshall cheer squad could smell the sweet victory heading their way, but Graves wasn’t done yet. With less than a minute to go in the last quarter, a three from sophomore Nealey Jackson tied the game 42-42.

Marshall would regain the lead and then lost it when Langhi fouled out of the game. That foul allowed Graves junior Avery Myatt to tie the game, as Myatt connected on both free throws  with less than five seconds to go. Before the buzzer sounded, Conner missed a 2-point shot and gave Graves a chance to change the entire night.

In overtime, neither team allowed the other to take the lead. Within seconds, the game was once again tied 46-46. A clutch three from Lady Marshals junior Layne Pea would eventually seal the deal as Marshall County outscored Graves 8-6 in overtime en route to the championship win.

For Graves:  Callie Jackon finished with a double-double pulling down 11 rebounds to go with her 21 points.  Senior Bailey Wilson finished with 10 points, senior Chloe Dawson finished with six points, Avery Myatt and Nealy Jackson finished with five and sophomore Ellie Carter had three.

As a team the Lady Eagles shot 32% from the floor, 25% from three and went 13-17 at the foul line and won the battle of the boards 35-21

For Marshall: Along with Conner's 26 points, sophomore Halle Langhi had a total of 17 points, Pea finished with seven points, and freshman Mia Teague had two points.

The Lady Marshals shot 47% from the floor, 25% from three and also went 13-17 from the fould line.
