As the final buzzer sounded, the electric roars of Marshall County High School echoed victorious for both the boys and girls.  The Lady Marshals earned the 56-45 victory, while the boys picked up the 45-43 win.

Classmates, family, and friends leapt onto the court as the Marshals were crowned 4th District Champions after sweeping Calloway County at Reed Conder Memorial Gymnasium on Thursday night.

For the girls, Calloway led Marshall in the first quarter and into halftime. Calloway senior Charlee Settle faced off against Marshall sophomore Jada Driver. Both ladies kept their teams from falling short when they needed them the most.

Driver wasn’t alone, junior Cayson Conner and sophomore Halle Langhi shined on the court as well, as they were the only three Lady Marshals to score.  Driver finished the night with 22 points, Conner finished with 18 points, and Langhi finished with 16 points.

Calloway County did not go down without a fight. Settle led her team with a total of 23 points. Junior Elle Carson finished the night with six points, sophomore Sunny Clark finished with six points,  seventh grader Skylar Waller finished with five points, and sophomore Addison Hicks finished with five points as well.

For the boys, the Lakers were fresh off their upset win over Murray and beat the Marshals the last time the two teams played on February 14.  That was with Marshall County's Zion Harmon scoring a school record 50 points. This time the Marshals would be without Harmon, the region's leading scorer, as he was serving his suspension for receiving two technical fouls in a game last week.

As the game began between the two teams, onlookers could feel the intensity on the court. Marshall took the early lead, but by halftime, the game was in Calloway’s hands.

Calloway County senior Kade Mize and Marshall County senior Tyler Stokes were both a force to be reckoned with throughout the night. Stokes finished his night with 20 points, while Mize finished with 16 points.

By the fourth quarter, the cheer sections for both schools were growing eager for the final buzzer. Until mere seconds, the game belonged to either team. Down by two Calloway had the ball and one final shot at the basket, coming up short of making the shot and the championship.

For Marshall County Senior Tyler Powell finished the night with nine points, junior Kaden Driver finished with eight points, junior Jay Nimmo finished with four points, junior Brady Miller finished with two, and sophomore Quinn Smith finished with two points as well.

For Calloway County: Senior Chandler Steele finished the night with eight points, senior Ki Franklin finished with eight points, senior Cade Butler finished with seven points, junior Jarrett Darnell finished with two points, and junior Jackson Chapman finished with two points as well.
