The Mayfield Cardinals survived a late rally from Graves County Friday night to win their 9th straight game over the Eagles, 45-31.

The Cardinals (5-0) jumped out early and often on Graves County, making it a 28-8 lead halfway through the second quarter. But the Eagles (3-2) would go on a 23-10 run of their own to make it 38-31 Mayfield early in the fourth quarter, capped off on a 3-yard touchdown run from Cody Goatley.

Graves County had the momentum midway through the 4th quarter. However, a complete change of momentum happened in the fourth quarter when Mayfield had the football in their own territory. Connor Guthrie connected on a short pass that was fumbled and ruled a fumble by the officials and recovered by Graves County.

However, the officials discussed the call further and reversed the call, allowing Mayfield to keep the football and give them complete momentum. Moments later, Kyle Hurt broke free and rushed for a 32-yard touchdown to give the Cardinals a commanding 45-31 lead with four minutes left in the game.

Graves had one final chance, but a fumble by the Eagles was recovered by Mayfield.

The Cardinals play a neutral site game next week against Corbin while Graves County travels to Owensboro to take on Apollo.

The Hopkinsville Tigers notched their first win of the season with a 16-9 win over Paducah Tilghman at the Stadium of Champions in Hopkinsville.

Hopkinsville (1-4) jumped out to the early advantage as quarterback Jay Bland found Gavin Marschand for a 38-yard strike to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead with seven minutes left in the opening quarter. The Tigers would tack on more in the first quarter as kicker Taylor Harton drilled a 34-yard field goal with 1:21 left in the first quarter to make it 10-0 Hopkinsville.

Paducah Tilghman (1-4) got on the scoreboard in the 2nd quarter as kicker Lance Butler connected on a 29-yard field goal to make it 10-3 Hopkinsville with 8:04 in the 2nd quarter. Then minutes later, Jordan Harmon rushed for a 50-yard touchdown to make it 10-9 Hopkinsville midway through the 2nd quarter.

The Tigers responded just before halftime as Jakevis Bryant rushed for a 3-yard touchdown to make it 16-9 Hopkinsville. The Tigers closed the door on the Tilghman offense in the 2nd half to give Hopkinsville it’s first win of the season.

Paducah Tilghman travels to (4-1) Caldwell County next week while Hopkinsville has their bye week.
