In the baseball championship, McCracken's Cole Womack led off the bottom of the 1st inning with a home run to give the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead. It would stay that way until the bottom of the 6th, when Tyler Hicks scored on a single by Ian Walters. The Mustangs (33-2) made it 3-0 later that same inning on an RBI double by Derek Schneider.
The Lakers (12-20) loaded the bases in the 7th inning but failed to score, giving the Mustangs their second regional title in as many years.
On the mound, Ryan Garner went six innings, giving up only two hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Keegan Breese pitched the 7th inning to pick up the save.
The Mustangs will play Highlands Monday at 7:30pm (CST) in the first round of the KHSAA State Tournament in Lexington.
In the softball championship, the Lady Mustangs (32-3) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning on an RBI on two infield errors by the Lady Tigers (22-12). Tori Humphrey led off the bottom of the 4th inning with an RBI double to left center. She scored on an RBI single from Rachel Ridolfi, giving McCracken a 4-0 lead.
The Lady Mustangs tacked on two more runs in the 6th inning on their way to back-to-back regional titles. McCracken will play the champions from the 3rd Region at 5pm Thursday June 4 in Owensboro.
