Murray High School is looking for a new boys’ basketball coach. Murray Independent Schools Superintendent Bob Rogers said Joey Adair was let go on Monday.

“Sometimes you feel a change in leadership is good for a program,” Rogers said. “It was my decision and it wasn’t an easy one. Joey is a fine person and has worked hard but I felt the program needed to go in a different direction.”

Adair went 38-46 over his three seasons as Murray’s head coach. His best season was this past year when the Tigers finished 15-11.

Rogers wouldn’t comment when asked if Adair’s termination was related to assistant coach Kwen Trice’s recent arrest and subsequent suspension. Trice was arrested Friday and faces five counts of third-degree rape. All five counts allegedly involve the same MHS student. Trice has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the judicial process.

Rogers said Adair will stay on as a teacher with Murray Independent Schools. The head coaching position at MHS was posted on Wednesday and Rogers said he’s hoping to hire the best coach available.
