Keith Hodge, MHS Football coach, said when he was hired to coach MHS football, he was told Tre was an outstanding athlete. “But, most importantly, I was also told, Tre was a young man of high character and values,” he said.
Teresa Speed, MHS principal, said Hornbuckle is an exemplary young man on and off the field.”
A Defensive Lineman for Murray High School and a three-year starter, Hornbuckle had 112 total tackles, 11 sacks, and 21 tackles for loss during his senior season, while also recovering three fumbles, causing two fumbles as well as scoring one defensive touch down.
Hornbuckle played Tight End and Defensive End in the Best of Bluegrass All State Game, where he was awarded (Most Valuable Player). Also recognized as a participant in the Kentucky vs. Tennessee Border Bowl Game, First Team All-State Defensive End, First Team All WKC Defensive End, First Team All Purchase Team Defensive End, Hornbuckle was named All District Player of The Year.
Located in Durham, N.C., Duke University was founded in 1838. Duke University was recently awarded the American Football Coaches Association’s (AFCA) 2015 Academic Achievement Award, which secured the program’s nation’s-best 14th such honor. Duke registered a 100 percent graduation rate for members of its freshman football student-athlete class of 2008 to share the accolade with Vanderbilt.
Hodge said Hornbuckle will fit in very well at Duke. “Tre has been a team leader on and off the field throughout his career here. He fits the exact mold they (Duke) look for in student athletes.”
