By West Kentucky Star Staff
LEXINGTON, KY - The McCracken County Mustangs scored early and often on Saturday night, mercy ruling the Bowling Green Purples 16-0 in 5 innings to advance to the state semifinals for the third year in a row.

The Mustangs batted around in the first and third innings, using a seven run first inning to jump out of the gates. McCracken County senior Rook Ellington provided the biggest spark for the Mustangs in the first with a bases clearing three run triple to make it 7-0.

The Mustangs would bat around again in the third, this time putting up nine runs to grab the 16-0 lead.

McCracken County's 16 runs in one game is tied for 11th all-time in the KHSAA State Baseball Tournament. McCracken County has now scored 30 runs in two games in the tournament, already good enough for 13th all-time for a full tournament, with at least one more game to play.

McCracken County will now play Highlands in the state semifinals Friday at 7:30 pm Central Time at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington. You can hear that game with Eric Chumbler and Kip Ellington on 99.5 FM The Fan.
