It's a slow week in high school football this week as most area teams are enjoying their bye week. But, for the three local teams that are in action, the storylines are all different.

Henderson County (3-4) vs. McCracken County (6-1)

McCracken County has put their opening week loss in the rearview mirror, as they have now reeled off six wins in a row. The Mustangs look to continue that trend Friday against a downtrodden Henderson County team. The Colonels, previously the class of 6A's first district, will travel to Paducah to face McCracken County with a losing record for the second consecutive year.

Despite winning their first two district games, the Colonels will still be a heavy underdog in this week's matchup with both their wins coming over struggling Ohio County and Muhlenberg County squads. The bulk of Henderson's offense will come from the rushing efforts of senior tailback Damion Carter. Through seven games this season, Carter has rushed for 1,025 yards for an average of 146 yards per game.

For McCracken County, the biggest story is that they may again be without starting quarterback Cash Jones. Jones, who suffered an ankle injury against Daviess County, is a game time decision. If Jones is not able to play, head coach Shawn Jackson will put the ball back in freshman Max Howard's hands. Howard held down the fort well last week , leading the Mustangs to a 63-14 victory over Ohio County.

This clash of 6A foes is set to kick off at 7:00 at Marquette Stadium in Paducah.

Marshall County (1-5) vs. Owensboro (5-1)

The schedule is doing no favors for the stumbling Marshals as they travel to Owensboro to take on the number two-ranked Devils. Marshall County put up its second highest point total of the season in last week's matchup against rival Graves County, but a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown in the second quarter wasn't enough to boost the Marshals past the Eagles. They lost the game 47-23 to fall to 0-2 in district play.

Evan Merrick's crew will really need to get something going early against Owensboro if they hope to pull the upset. One area where they were much improved against the Eagles was on special teams. After giving up two return touchdowns in week three to Christian County, the Marshals made up for it with their return score last week.

Owensboro enters this week with a nearly flawless record. Their only loss coming to class 5A's top tanked team, Bowling Green. The Devils are led by the two-headed running attack of Landon Board and Anthony James, who have combined for 1,271 yards on the year. Owensboro's defense is also to credit for much of their success. They give up only 16 points per game on average.

Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 7:00 in Owensboro.

Calloway County (3-3) vs. Webster County (1-5)

The Calloway County Lakers have quickly become this year's cinderella candidate. After starting the year 0-3, things looked dim for first year coach Mickey Garrison's team, but a rally in overtime to defeat Trigg County in week four gave the Lakers the confidence to rip off two more wins over Madisonville and Hopkins County Central.

This week's test pits Calloway against an underperforming Webster County team whose only win has come over Fulton County. Losers last week to Ballard Memorial, 56-14, the Trojans base offensive attack is on the ground. But, they have struggled to get that going, as their leading rusher is quarterback Drew Skinner.

Calloway quarterback Cole Stetson is looking to continue his aerial attack this week against Webster as the Lakers travel to Dixon to try to improve their record to 4-3. Kickoff is slated for 7:00.
