The free event from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm Saturday will feature coaches and athletes from Racers collegiate teams, including football, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, golf, and rifle. The Racer cheerleaders will also be in force, along with team mascot Dunker and the Junior Racers.
Head football coach Mitch Stewart plans to bring along his entire roster to WAR ("We Are Racers") Zone. They'll break off with fans to play six different fun contests, as well as take photos and sign autographs. It's also a great way to meet the squad before they kick off their season next Thursday night against Kentucky Wesleyan at Stewart Stadium.
Both the mens and womens basketball squads will be at each end of the arena floor, while the other teams will ring the upper concourse with their many activities.
Jarrod Martin of Journey Church, organizer of the event, said all the coaches are pumped about the prospect of meeting so many fans in person, and with the buzz already generated on campus and around the community.
"I don't know of any place (university) that does it like this," Martin said. "Getting to compete, that's just great fun. And it's for all ages, not just the kids.
"At last year's event, the track team had mini hurdles set up, and a mini shot put," Martin said. "The rifle team had laser rifles for fans to try their skill, and they took home an autographed target, too."
Along with the athletic contests, a bounce house will entertain younger kids, and concessions will be available for sale.
Youth coaches are invited to bring along their entire teams for the free event.
