Former Murray State golfer Patrick Newcomb has successfully open qualified for a PGA Tour event. Newcomb, of Benton, KY, took runner-up status Monday at the Resort at Glade Springs' Cobb Course in Daniels, West Virginia to qualify for this week's Greenbrier Classic.
Newcomb finished with a bogey-free, 6-under 32-33=65 (six birdies). In his only previous PGA Tour start, Newcomb missed the cut at The McGladrey Classic last fall, also as an open qualifier.
The Greenbrier Classic starts Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Old White TPC course in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia.
