A maintenance crew spotted a settling of the bridge deck, and inspectors confirmed structural damage, possibly caused by an overweight load. The bridge had a weight restriction of 20 tons.
 
The bridge crosses a fork of Fredericks Ditch in Webster County.  Four wooden pilings supporting a pier were shattered.

The closure is indefinite, while engineers further inspect the bridge to see whether repair is possible or feasible.

Anyone with information on overweight loads that may have crossed the bridge should contact Kentucky State Police.
