Driver of Semi Cited for DUI After Rollover Crash
By West Kentucky Star Staff
WEST PADUCAH, KY - U.S. Highway 62 was blocked for more than six hours Wednesday and the driver of a semi-tractor trailer that overturned was cited to court.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, the accident happened about 12:30 pm in the 8900 block of Blandville Road, near Fisher Road. The tractor trailer was hauling dry bulk lime, but none of it spilled. However, the fuel tanks on the truck leaked diesel fuel onto the road.

The driver of the semi, 55-year-old Brian Burd of Grand Chain, Illinois, was trapped in the cab, but was rescued after the front windshield was removed. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Deputies say the truck dropped off the right shoulder of the highway and traveled about 100 yards through a ditch before coming back onto the road and overturning. Deputies determined that alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident, so Burd was cited for DUI.

At the time of the accident, traffic was heavier than normal on Highway 62 because of a road closure on U.S. Highway 60. Traffic was detoured away from the area by McCracken County DES until the road re-opened about 7 pm.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Kentucky EPA responded to the scene to assist in cleanup of the diesel fuel and removal of the tractor trailer.
