I-24 Work Zone at I-69 Resumes
By KENTUCKY TRNSPORTATION CABINET
LYON CO., KY - A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans has resumed a work zone lane restriction on Interstate 24 westbound at the I-69/Western Kentucky Parkway Interchange in Lyon County this week. The contractor was able to take down the work zone over the weekend. However, work has advanced to a point where the restriction with a 55 MPH speed limit will now have to remain up around the clock for several months.

This work zone is to allow the southbound/westbound exit ramp from I-69/WK Pkwy to westbound Interstate 24 to be lengthened and widened.

All westbound I-24 traffic is moved to the left-hand or passing lane in this work zone at mile point 41.6. This is for westbound traffic approaching the Exit 42 Interchange.

This work zone has restrictions for southbound/westbound traffic on the I-69/WK Pkwy Exit ramp to I-24 westbound, including a 35 MPH ramp speed limit with a stop sign at the ramp merge point with I-24.All other ramps around the interchange are operating normally.

The work zone along I-24 includes a strictly enforced 55 mile per hour speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use appropriate caution in this work zone. Due to the limited work space along the ramp, equipment and construction personnel are in close proximity to traffic flow. The limited work space also creates a shorter than normal merge zone for traffic entering Interstate 24 at this ramp site.

The work zone is expected to be in place for about two months.

This work zone is among several that will be required through the summer construction season as part of a $9.9 million contract to upgrade the former Western Kentucky Parkway to federal standards now that it is part of Interstate 69.
