Overturned Tanker Closes Hwy. 62, 286 Overnight
By West Kentucky Star Staff
WEST PADUCAH, KY - Kentucky Highway 286 and US 62 reopened to traffic about 7 am Saturday, after having been closed since about 1 pm Friday.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the Y intersection near the McCracken - Ballard County line was closed due to an overturned tanker that was hauling acid. At one time the truck was leaking acid and one person had to be evacuated for a while.

Once the leak was stopped, the road remained closed because officials were concerned a passing vehicle might run off the slick road and hit the tanker, creating a bigger problem.

A specialized recovery crew from St. Louis worked overnight to off-load the acid from the truck.

US 62 was blocked at Holt Road with traffic being directed to take an alternate route.

KYTC notified the public that the road was open about 11:30 am.
