Paducah Man Injured in I-24 Crash
By West Kentucky Star Staff
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY - A crash on Interstate 24 early Sunday morning sent one person to the hospital.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened around 12:30 am, near the 16 mile marker. Deputies said 25-year-old Cody Thompson, of Paducah, had just entered traffic from the westbound on-ramp of I-24 at the 16 mile marker when he apparently lost control of his car.

His car entered the grass median and passed through the cable barrier system, ultimately coming to rest in the center of the eastbound lanes of travel, directly under the Benton Road overpass. Thompson got out of his vehicle, fearing that it would be struck by oncoming traffic.

Deputies say a second car, driven by 28-year-old Dustin Manley, of Gilbertsville, was able to avoid Thompson’s vehicle, but his vehicle hit one of Thompson’s legs before colliding with the cable barrier system. Thompson was transported to a local hospital by Mercy Regional Ambulance Service for treatment of his injuries.

I-24 was closed for approximately one hour to facilitate the investigation and cleanup of debris.
