Traffic Stop Leaves Benton Man Facing Meth Charges

PADUCAH - A Tuesday morning traffic stop resulted in drug charges against a Benton man.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, deputies conducted a traffic stop on John Puryear Drive when they observed the passenger, 40-year-old Gary D. Kelley of Benton, trying to discard drug paraphernalia inside a drink he was holding. 

Deputies also reportedly observed Kelley trying to discreetly shove something between the seats. During a search of the vehicle, deputies found suspected methamphetamine in between the seats where Kelley had been sitting.

Kelley was placed under arrest and lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail. He's charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence.

The driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Terry W. Babb of Paducah, was cited for failure to or improper signal and failure to produce insurance card.
