PADUCAH, KY -
A wreck in the westbound lane of the I-24 bridge Thursday afternoon left one person injured. The crash, which involved two semis was caused by a pickup truck that ran out of gas and stalled on the bridge.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department reported that 33-year-old Troy D. Risely of Paducah was driving the truck that stalled. An SUV driven by 41-year-old Lindsay W. Morris of Golconda, IL tried to swerve and avoid the pickup, but was struck by a semi that was behind her. That semi was driven by 52-year-old Karen L. Barela of Clearwater, FL. Barela's semi then swerved into another tractor-trailer driven by Lanell Brooks of St. Louis, MO, while Morris’ vehicle hit Risely’s stalled truck.
Brooks was the only one injured. He was then taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The roadway was closed for about 1 hour and 30 minutes while the collision was investigated, and the vehicles were removed.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Paducah Fire Department, Concord Fire Department, McCracken County DES, Mercy Regional Ambulance Service, and multiple towing companies to clean up the scene.
