Marshall County Schools Superintendent Trent Lovett said Friday that he plans to recommend that Marshall County schools provide in-person and virtual options for students when school starts on August 26.

When Governor Beshear recommended on August 10 that schools delay in-person instruction until September 28, Lovett indicated the district would likely comply, but also said he would gather all available information and speak to school board members before deciding.

He had planned to make his announcement on Thursday, but state officials requested a conference call with him on Friday morning, and he made the announcement when the call ended.

Interim Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Education Kevin Brown told superintendents on Monday that any district that chose to defy Beshear's recommendation would get one of these calls to discuss the district's reasons.

The school board meeting is Thursday.
