The Friends of the Shawnee National Forest are partnering with University of Illinois Extension and the National Forest Service to host a trash blast in October.

Thirty volunteers are being sought to collect litter and remove graffiti from assigned locations.

The next one will be held Friday, October 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Grantsburg Swamp in Johnson County. The final blast will take place on Nov. 3 at Dutchman Lake.

Volunteers are recommended to wear sturdy shoes, bring their own work gloves, wear long pants and closed toed shoes. Trash buckets and trash grabbers will be provided.
