Southern Illinois will be the site of a new $30 million sports complex as soon as next year.

The city council of Marion and the Williamson County board of commissioners finalized an agreement to fund the multiuse sports complex on the west side of Marion.

The all-turf complex will include modular accommodations for baseball, softball and soccer. A 150,000-square-foot indoor dome arena will also be constructed.

The partnership which also involves the Oasis Sports organization that includes the ownership of Black Diamond Harley Davidson, will construct an RV park and four new hotels near The Pavilion and the former Illinois Star Centre Mall to prepare for an increase in sports tourism guests.

Revenue from motel and vacation rental taxes will help cover payments on loans agreed to with a group of local banks.

WFCN reports that plans are for construction to begin immediately. The sports complex is expected to be completed by next spring.
