A meeting in Murray for the sale of electronic devices through Facebook Marketplace ended with theft charges for a Tennessee man last week.

Murray Police said on June 23, two people were attempting to sell electronics through Facebook Marketplace, and they agreed to meet a person to complete the sale.  However, this person grabbed the devices and quickly left without paying for them.

The officer investigating the theft learned that a Marshall County Deputy had conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that matched the suspect’s vehicle.  Through a joint investigation, officers charged the operator of that vehicle, 29-year-old Zachary Winecoff of Hermitage, TN, with theft by unlawful taking over $1,000 but under $10,000.

Murray Police are reminding residents looking for a safe location to meet when selling an item through Facebook Marketplace, they can do so inside the Murray Police Department’s lobby.
