A Graves County Sheriff's Deputy is being praised for his heroic actions during a house fire Saturday.

The Graves County Sheriff's Office said Sgt. Richard Edwards was on routine patrol in the Farmington area around 3:40 pm when he observed thick, black smoke coming from a home in the 7900 block of KY 1124, near the Calloway County line.

As Edwards was approaching the home, a male ran out of the front door and told him other people were still in the home. Edwards entered the home and assisted a female evacuate an infant child and the families’ dog.  A short time after Edwards and the family were out of the house, the fire spread, engulfing the home.

The Sheriff's Office said no one was seriously injured in this fire. The infant child was treated as a precaution for minor smoke inhalation at the scene.

In a Facebook post on Sunday the Sheriff's Office said they would like to commend Sgt. Edwards on his quick and selfless actions on Saturday, helping to rescue two victims from this house fire and the family pet.
