The Graves County Sheriff’s Office said three people were arrested after the pursuit that began in Mayfield ended in Ballard County. Deputies attempted to stop a pickup pulling a trailer near KY 80 and the Bypass just south of Mayfield, as the trailer, with an SUV on it, was believed to have been stolen out of Anderson, Indiana. Turns out the truck was stolen, too, from Louisiana. A video circulating on social media reportedly showed the pursuit as it wound back through Mayfield.
The pursuit continued north on KY 121 at speeds over 70 mph through Fancy Farm before turning along KY 80 into Carlisle County. The driver led police back onto KY 121, to US 62, and north on US 51 into Ballard County. Kentucky State Police, along with deputies from Carlisle and Ballard Counties, joined the pursuit, unsuccessfully attempting to stop the truck with spike strips. Once in Wickliffe, the driver turned into Phoenix Paper and drove through a fence. The trailer got caught in the fencing, and the driver could not get it free.
Deputies approached the truck with guns drawn, and the driver shut off the truck and was removed from it. They also removed two passengers from the truck. The driver was identified as 38-year-old Jason Fowler of Pollock, Louisiana. Fowler and his passengers, 49-year-old Terri L. Green of Ball, Louisiana, and 25-year-old Daryn B. Covington of Ball, Louisiana, were said to have been seen throwing items, later recovered and determined to be methamphetamine, out the windows of the truck during the pursuit.
Fowler was charged with fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property (truck) valued at over $10,000, receiving stolen property (trailer) valued at under $10,000, possession of methamphetamine, driving under the influence of meth, and tampering with physical evidence.
Green was charged with receiving stolen property and possession of methamphetamine.
Covington was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, and tampering with physical evidence.
Stolen license plates were also reportedly recovered. The trio also faces additional charges from Carlisle and Ballard County related to the chase and the damage at Phoenix Paper. All three were taken back to Graves County before being housed in out-of-county detention centers. Stolen items have been impounded ahead of being returned to the owners.
The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office said that vehicles matching the descriptions of these was also allegedly connected to a trailer theft attempt there, recently.
