Nominees were announced Tuesday to fill the judicial vacancy on the Kentucky Court of Appeals.

The vacancy is in the 1st Appellate District, Division 2, which is composed of the 24 westernmost counties. The seat became vacant when Judge Donna L. Dixon retired last November.

The three nominees for the judgeship are David Cowan Buckingham of Murray, Jason Shea Fleming of Crofton and Lisa Payne Jones of Owensboro.

Judge Buckingham served as a Kentucky Court of Appeals judge from 1997 to 2005 and as the senior judge on the Kentucky Court of Appeals from 2006 to 2010.  In 2019, Governor Matt Bevin appointed Buckingham to the state Supreme Court, to the seat vacated by the retirement of Bill Cunningham.
