FEMA has approved a $2.4 million reimbursement to Marshall County for the cost of debris removal after the December tornado.

Because of the extent of the damage, President Joe Biden authorized a cost share adjustment to 100 percent federal funding for debris removal within a 30-day period of Kentucky's choosing.

The county hired a contractor to remove vegetative debris between December 27 and January 25. The work and costs associated with the project include labor, equipment, material, and contract costs.

FEMA's Public Assistance program provides grants on a cost share basis to reimburse state and local governments and some private nonprofit organizations for the cost of debris removal, repair work, and emergency protective measures.
