McCracken County Clerk Julie Griggs has announced she will not seek re-election in 2022.

In a Thursday Facebook post, Griggs said that after much thought and prayer, she has decided to retire at the end of her term in December of 2022.

Griggs will enter her 34th year with the Clerk's Office next year. She said she feels it's time for her to step aside and allow someone with new ideas to come in and keep the office moving forward.

Griggs endorsed Jamie Huskey to take over the role. Huskey has worked in the clerk's office for 26 years and has announced she will be running for the position.

"I am supporting her in her campaign as I know her experience and knowledge of the office will be such an asset," she said.

Griggs thanked McCracken County residents for putting their trust in her and allowing her to serve in a job she loves.

Griggs' announcement was the third of the week for local officeholders. Earlier on Thursday, McCracken County Sheriff Matt Carter said he would not run for the position next year. On Wednesday, Lyon County Judge-executive Wade White posted online that he also would not seek re-election.
