Assistant McCracken County Attorney Craig Newburn, Jr. announced his candidacy Thursday for McCracken District Court Judge in the 2nd Judicial Circuit, 2nd Division.

“I am excited about the opportunity to continue to serve the citizens of McCracken County,” said Newbern.
“I have practiced in courts across the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and I will use those experiences in being a fair, knowledgeable and impartial judge.”

Newbern has worked for nine years as an Assistant County Attorney in McCracken County where he prosecuted child support cases in the McCracken County Family Court and domestic violence and general criminal offenses in McCracken County District Court.

Prior to his current position, Newbern worked as a staff attorney for the Department of Public Advocacy where he tried multiple misdemeanors, high level felonies and death penalty cases.  Newbern has also served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

He is seeking to fill the unexpired term of the late Chris Hollowell while becoming McCracken County’s first African-American judge.
