One dead in home explosion in Energy

One person has died, and two others suffered minor injuries after a home exploded in the town of Energy, Illinois, on Tuesday.

WFCN reported that the call came in just after 7 p.m. about the explosion that happened at a home near the intersection of West McGinnis and College Streets. Deputies secured the scene and searched for victims, locating one person. The name of that victim has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

Two people at nearby homes were found to have some minor injuries, including an older neighbor who was knocked off their feet by the blast.

No word yet on the cause of the explosion. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, and other agencies are continuing to investigate.
