UPDATE: After three weeks of cleanup work, the rock slide on I-69 near the Caldwell-Hopkins County line has been completely cleared.

The roadway has been restricted since February 15 when the large rock slide spilled all the way across the shoulder onto one lane of the interstate.

Highway crews put the extra rock to good use by building shoulders along two miles of KY 672.

ORIGINAL STORY:
Interstate 69 in Caldwell County is restricted after a large rock slide fell onto the roadway on Saturday afternoon.

The slide occurred in the northbound lanes between the 86-87 mile markers near the Caldwell - Hopkins county line.

The large mass of rock broke off about 25 feet up the slope and tumbled all the way through the drainage ditch, across the shoulder and onto both lanes of the interstate.

One lane was cleared shortly after the slide. Rock has also been cleared from the right-hand lane, but it can't be reopened until a large amount of rock is cleared from the shoulder and a safe distance into the ditch from the roadway.

An estimate of when the road would be cleared was not provided.
