A McCracken County woman will face torture and animal cruelty charges following a tip reporting dead dogs and bad treatment of animals.

Sixty-year-old Lulu Brown was served with a criminal summons Thursday after investigators reportedly found three dead puppies, two extremely sick puppies, and the emaciated mother.

Officials said the surviving puppies and mother were taken from the North 13th Street home to a local veterinarian's office for emergency care. Two more puppies died within 24 hours.

After a consultation with prosecutors, Brown was charged with six counts of torture, two counts of cruelty, confinement and control of a female dog while in heat, and two counts of chaining and tethering a dog.
