After a record number of nominations, Kentucky Living has announced the winners of this year's Best in Kentucky awards, including several here in western Kentucky.

Land Between the lakes received the award for best public hunting and fishing area in both Trigg and Lyon counties, and Purple Toad Winery in McCracken County was named the state's best winery.

Governor Andy Beshear also recognized finalists of this year's Beautify the Bluegrass initiative, a program recognizing Kentuckians who enhance their communities.

Finalists include the Lifeline Recovery Center Playground in Paducah. Other finalists were the Veterans Memorial Park Beautification Project in Liberty, Eastern Elementary Garden Club in Pleasureville, Hodgenville Elementary School Natural Trail and Outdoor Classroom, and the Beautify I-65 project in Warren County.

Readers of Kentucky Living magazine have been casting votes for their Kentucky favorites since 2009. This year's award winners will be featured in the September issue of Kentucky Living.
