A wildfire spread rapidly over hundreds of acres in Land Between the Lakes on Sunday.

After a call around 5 a.m., Forest Service crews responded Sunday morning to a 30-acre wildfire on road 337, just off of road 141, north of Fenton Campground in the Kentucky portion of LBL. The North/South Trail was impacted.

Dubbed the Cassidy Fire, as of about noon it had grown to 150 acres and was 20% contained.

By 6 p.m. as winds died down, the Cassity Fire was successfully contained at 450 acres.

The cause is under investigation but believed to be human-caused.

Fire may continue to creep in the interior of the containment and smoke may still be seen. Crews will continue to monitor the area and its perimeter.

The North/South Trail will remain closed on Monday, but FS Road 337 should reopen by morning. Visitors should still avoid the area as hot spots remain.
